Event Description:
The pandemic this year has created a need for health care and educational systems to innovate and provide services virtually. Commonly referred to as “Telehealth,” we would like to discuss our collective journeys into providing quality care across various specialty areas. We will introduce the various methods each of our workplaces provide telehealth, and open up a discussion for all participants to share their experiences, questions, and ideas for moving forward. We will also share resources for you to use in your practice.

Speaker Biographies:
Melissa Adamski is a graduate of St Catherine University and has been working in mental health for 14 years. Melissa has a special interest in adults with sensory integration dysfunction and adults with intellectual disabilities. Melissa has been the past chair for the MOTA Developmental Disabilities Special Interest Group and served on the Government Affairs committee. Melissa has also been a peer reviewer through MOTA. She has been a co-facilitator of Buried in Treasures Workshops and enjoys mentoring student interns. Melissa is an advocate for individuals with mental illness and gives numerous presentations to educate others about the benefits of occupational therapy for everyone to “live life to the fullest”.

Monica Mommsen graduated from St. Catherine University, now called St. Kate’s! Fresh out of school (graduating class of 1986), Monica returned to her previous place of employment where she began as a classroom aide for a therapeutic preschool to serve as an outpatient  pediatric therapist. Monica continued to attend symposiums and workshops and has completed training with certification in such evidence-based practices as the Therapressure Touch Protocol, Therapeutic Listening and Interactive Metronome.

In 2014 Monica took the leap into the educational community, and is currently employed at Intermediate school district 287. District 287 is a partner with other school districts in the area to provide intervention/service to the students with the most significant needs and challenges. Her caseload is 30% a transition program, servicing 18-21-year-olds, some Care and Treatment students and 70% in the Early intervention program serving children and families birth-two years of age with our Eden Prairie  member school district.  Monica loves the work she does with her students and parents and  feels the best aspect about her role as an occupational therapist working in pediatrics is that she gets to play everyday!

Tammy Moothedan has been working as an OT for 25 years. She started her career providing early intervention services for the State of North Carolina. She then worked as an independent contractor in Southern California in a variety of settings including behavioral health, pediatrics and home health care.  After moving back to the Twin Cities area she worked in acute care at the University of Mn Hospital and in home health care.  She has focused on home health care and lymphedema therapy for the past 15 years.  She is an Adjunct Professor in the OTA program at St. Catherine University and serves on the MOTA board as Member at Large.

Tammy graduated from the University of Minnesota OT program, has a Certificate in Deaf Studies from the University of California, San Francisco and is certified as a Lymphedema Therapist from The Academy of Lymphatic Studies.
What Tammy finds most rewarding in her career is knowing that age doesn’t matter when it comes to ability, hopes and dreams.
