Event Description:
Telehealth in outpatient pediatric practice is new to most of us, with a lot of telehealth programming being a result of the pandemic at hand. However, many would argue that telehealth might be here to stay due to technology’s prevalence in our society and convenience. This course on telehealth in pediatric practice will start from the beginning and cover what is telehealth and basic terminology for practice. It will also address telehealth reimbursement, tips and tools for practice, and evaluation for the pediatric population using telehealth.

We will go over how to start using a green screen for your pediatric telehealth practice, and how to develop a household tool checklist so you know what your families have at home to use for online therapy
sessions.

Finally, a review of the literature reveals that research for outpatient pediatric occupational therapy and telehealth is still emerging. However, preliminary research points to high satisfaction rates and effectiveness in early intervention, the school and pediatric medical settings. The research shows that benefits of using telehealth in pediatric occupational therapy include increased accessibility, quality of care, greater collaboration with parents and caregivers, and fewer missed sessions.

Speaker Biography:
Lani Hanson, MSOT, worked for various social services agencies in Minneapolis, MN; Austin, TX; and San Francisco, CA including 3 years as an independent living skills advocate in a community OT setting working with low-income individuals and families. Following this 10 year career, Lani tapped into her passion for occupational therapy and attended graduate school at San Jose State University in the Bay Area where she partook in Phi Theta Epsilon and Phi Kappa Phi honor society activities. Lani participated in the in-school psychosocial clinic, and fieldwork in acute care, with older adults in a PACE program, and most recently with children and adolescents in an outpatient pediatric clinic in Minneapolis.
