Event Description:
Acute care practitioners play a vital role in discharge planning and determining assistance level clients may need upon leaving the hospital.  With over 20% of our occupational therapy practitioners working in acute care across the United States, it is important to recognize the unique role OT has in discharge planning and cognitive evaluation in the fast-paced hospital environment (AOTA, 2018; AOTA, 2019). This virtual continuing education course will provide an overview of occupational therapy practitioners role in acute care and addressing cognition specific to evaluation, treatment and discharge planning. Additionally, this course will provide a practical guide that can help practitioners in selecting cognitive screening and assessment tools and tasks to aid clinical decision making for discharge planning surrounding ADL and IADL performance (Oldenburg, Glaess, Trenary, 2020).
