Event Description
This course will include background information on the roles and routines of professional musicians and job demands and cultural contexts therein. Task specific focal dystonia and a review of the research will be discussed. The role of Occupational Therapy in working with musicians living with focal dystonia will be highlighted.

Speaker Biography
Jill Olson Moser, OTS is a professional violinist and music educator who has performed nationally and internationally with major symphony orchestras. Jill has shared the stage with stars including Stevie Wonder and Hugh Jackman and can be heard in recordings ranging from Minnesota Orchestra to Prince.

Jill’s curiosity and passion for lifelong learning led her to pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy at St. Catherine University, with special interest in hand therapy and a desire to promote the broad occupational needs of individuals in the performing arts. 

Learning Objectives
Participants will:
    •    Understand characteristics of task specific focal dystonia and the implications of this diagnosis on musicians
    •    Understand the professional culture and physical demands that are unique to professional musicians
    •    Identify appropriate approaches for working with this population in the therapeutic setting.
