Arrowhead District Research Poster Symposium

Speakers: Students from the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy Program

Target Audience: : OTRs, OTAs, OT students

Educational level: beginner/intermediate

Course Description: This research symposium will include poster presentations by seven student teams who have completed original research projects. Each team will be available to engage participants in discussion about their project, answer questions, and help participants see how each project contributes to evidence-based occupational therapy. 

Specific topics include:

  1. The benefit of activity adaptation, pacing, and mindfulness in occupational therapy to manage chronic pain: A critical review;  
  2. Identifying and addressing psychosocial factors in fieldwork experiences and practice settings;
  3. Sensory-based interventions for adults with developmental disabilities: A scoping review; 
  4. The relationship between the perception of occupational therapy intervention and quality of life in older adults with low vision: A retrospective and prospective study;
  5. Occupation-based social skill interventions with peer mediation;
  6. The efficacy of electrical stimulation at reducing spasticity in children and young adults with cerebral palsy: A systematic review;
  7. Compression garments for altered tactile processing: Quantifying compression.

 Learning Objectives:

By participating in this poster session, clinicians will:

  1. learn about seven different faculty-student research topics and their methodologies;
  2. appreciate the application of research findings to occupational therapy in specific practice areas;
  3. gain awareness of potential future research questions in specific areas of occupational therapy practice;
  4. develop potential collaborations with OT faculty and students at the College of St. Scholastica that could lead to clinician participation in research projects;
  5. appreciate the importance of research and its contribution to evidence-based occupational therapy practice.

Speaker Bios: all presenters will be Master of Science students in the Occupational Therapy Program at the College of St. Scholastica.

*This event will allow participants to receive 1 contact hour of CE. To complete this course and receive 1 contact hours of CE, participants must attend for the full hour. 

The cost for this event will be free for MOTA members and $20 for non-MOTA members.
