1-2-3 RESET™ is a trauma sensitive framework that is embedded in evidence-based approaches created by
Heather Schmidt, MS, OTR/L and Dawn Paulson, MS, OTR/L to support students’ ability to access
learning opportunities. The approach supports children in kindergarten through 3rd grade in the
areas of Relationships, Environment Considerations, Self-Regulation, Empowering Students, and Task
Modifications to improve student’s mental health and well-being. Heather and Dawn will share their
experiences with implementing 1-2-3 RESET™ as a Tier 1 approach as part of a school’s Multi-tiered
Systems of Support (MTSS). Experiencing mindfulness activities and other regulation based interventions will
be a part of the presentation, so you can walk away with concrete ways to help your students.

Speaker Credentials and Biographies:

Heather Schmidt, MS, OTR/L

Heather is an Occupational Therapist with 20 years of experience in clinical and school settings who founded Integrative Therapy in 2009. Understanding the unique needs of charter schools and how to implement Occupational Therapy (OT) services within that environment are Heather’s specialties. After graduating from the University of WI-Green Bay with a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and a Master of Science degree in OT from the University of MN, Heather worked with a variety of ages and disabilities to help individuals meet their full potential. Special interests of Heather’s include trauma informed care, sensory processing, primitive reflexes, and supporting educators to understand how to support all students, not just identified students with disabilities. Heather’s passion for learning led to the creation of Integrative Education in 2018, partnering with Eileen Richter and the RAIR Symposium to bring the Integrative Education Symposium to the Twin Cities as a 3-day continuing education conference. She enjoys volunteering with Camp Avanti, an intensive OT program within a rustic camp setting, Herzing University’s COTA program on their Community Advisory Board and as a guest lecturer for Herzing University and the University of Minnesota. Spending time with her husband and two boys, practicing yoga, baking and creating art help Heather to maintain work life balance while continuing to do what she loves!

Dawn Paulson, MS, OTR/L

Dawn Paulson, MS, OTR/L, is an Occupational Therapist with more than two decades of experience in delivering occupational therapy services to children and families in home, clinic and school settings. After graduating with her degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin Madison, she was fortunate to begin working with Sheila Frick, a leading innovator in OT practice. Through her work with Sheila she had the opportunity to learn first-hand from leading occupational therapists across the world. In 1999, Dawn and her husband, Andy, opened Integrated Development Services (IDS), a multidisciplinary clinic providing outpatient and in–home therapy services for children with autism throughout the state of Wisconsin. After 15 wonderful years in business, she and her husband made the decision to transition away from IDS in 2014. Dawn is thrilled to now be a part of the dynamic group of therapists at Integrative Therapy bringing her experience, enthusiasm and team-oriented approach to the school environment. She also finds joy in collaborating with the team at Integrative Education to bring high quality continuing education to curious learners worldwide. Her holistic treatment perspective combines both cutting edge and time-tested therapy strategies along with an emphasis on the power of play and relationship as a way of fostering children’s development. Along the way, Dawn has pursued areas of interest including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for the Treatment of Trauma (Level 1 certified), Mindfulness (MBSR), Yoga (RYT 200 and Karma Kids Yoga Certified), Therapeutic Listening (advanced practitioner), Craniosacral Therapy (Techniques certified with additional advanced training) and a multitude of additional course work. A life-long learner, Dawn is currently pursuing a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at St. Mary’s University with the intent of integrating her knowledge, practice and teaching into a multi-dimensional approach to working with wonderfully complex humans and the systems that surround them. In her free time, Dawn enjoys live music, dancing, spending time outdoors, reading, and spending quality time with family and friends.
