Membership Type Definitions:Occupational Therapist: Any individual initially certified to practice as an OT or licensed or regulated by a state, commonwealth, district or territory of the United States to practice as an occupational therapist shall be eligible to be an Occupational Therapist member Occupational Therapy Assistant: Any individual initially certified to practice as an OTA or licensed or regulated by a state, commonwealth, district or territory of the United States to practice as an occupational therapy assistant shall be eligible to be an Occupational Therapy Assistant member Occupational Therapy Student: Any individual enrolled in an occupational therapy educational program that is accredited, approved or pending approval or accreditation by the Association and that is located in the United States or in a state, commonwealth, district or territory of the United States or any individual that is enrolled in a program for pre-OT shall be eligible to be a Student member (student membership only applies to initial degree. Returning for higher education (i.e. from OTA to OT or BAOT, BSOT, MAOT or MSOT to OTD) does not qualify for student status) Associate: An individual or organization interested in promoting occupational therapy but who is not eligible for another membership classification Retired: An individual who has met (a) and or (b) above and has retired from practice First Year Occupational Therapy Assistant: An individual who has recently graduated from an accredited program and is now certified to practice as an OTA or licensed or regulated by a state, commonwealth, district or territory of the United States to practice as an occupational therapy assistant shall be eligible to be a First Year Occupational Therapy Assistant member. This membership type is available only to new graduates in their first year after graduation.
