Speaker Credentials and Biographies:

Elizabeth Kallas, MAOT, OTR/L is a pediatric outpatient occupational therapist with six years of experience working with children in the twin cities area. In the past, she worked with adults with serious and persistent mental illness in both community and acute care settings. As part of her current work, she treats children with a history of trauma and a variety of mental health conditions impacting daily participation. She partners closely with multi-disciplinary team-members to best support the child and their caregivers.


Rebekah Pogwizd, MSOT, OTR/L, CHT is a practicing hand therapist based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, holding a Bachelor's degree in Physiology and Emergency Medicine, a Master's degree in Occupational Therapy, and is currently pursuing a Post-Professional Occupational Therapy Doctoral Degree scheduled for completion in May 2024. Specializing in orthopedic upper extremity injuries, work comp, ergonomics, wound care, arthritis, and nerve injuries, Rebekah has demonstrated a keen interest in a range of occupational therapy areas. As a board member of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT), she has contributed by creating digital and print content. Additionally, Rebekah is a published author in ASHT Times and actively engaged in research, including a recent project assessing grip strength norms with the University of Minnesota.


Rhonda Roed, MOT, OTR/L, ATP, CLT Rhonda is an occupational therapy (OT) instructor at the University of North Dakota (UND). She earned her bachelor's and master’s degrees in OT at the University of North Dakota and is currently enrolled in the post-professional OT doctoral program at St. Catherine University. Rhonda has worked as an OT since 1993 in acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, home health, and behavioral health settings, providing direct care and leadership. Rhonda continues to provide mental health OT services through a collaborative agreement with the Grand Forks Housing Authority. Her interests are in program development and providing care for underserved individuals, especially those transitioning from homelessness, who have challenges to stay housed and participate in their communities.

Participants will: 


Occupational Therapy for Children with Trauma History: Elizabeth Kallas, MAOT, OTR/L 

  • Participants will define trauma, trauma-informed care, and how trauma impacts pediatric occupational participation. 

  • Participants will identify which assessments and interventions are currently used by occupational therapists to treat children with trauma-backgrounds. 

  • Participants will outline the best available evidence for outcomes of OT with pediatric trauma populations as well identify gaps and future needs for this emerging practice area.


Characteristics of Successful Orthopedic Fellowship Training Programs: Rebekah Pogwizd, MSOT, OTR/L, CHT

  • Participants will be able to identify a critical research question related to the topic of orthopedic fellowship program evidence. 

  • Participants will be able to recall four themes related to orthopedic fellowship training characteristics.

  • Participants will be able to discuss one of the recommendations for practice associated with fellowship training.


Advancing Trauma-Informed Care in Permanent Supportive House: Rhonda Roed, MOT, OTR/L, ATP, CLT

  • Participants will state at least 3 positive health outcomes for service users and providers when trauma-informed care is implemented 

  • Participants will identify key staff training strategies for successful trauma-informed care Implementation 

  • Participants will understand why organizational engagement is essential for trauma-informed care sustainability
